Time.fun Announces Migration to Solana, Ensuring User Protections

Time.fun, a platform that allows creators to monetize their time by offering "minutes" for personalized interactions with fans, has announced its move from the Base blockchain to Solana. This transition aims to capitalize on Solana’s high-speed, low-cost infrastructure, which Time.fun believes will better position the platform for mainstream adoption and user growth.

Why the Shift to Solana?

Time.fun’s migration is driven by Solana’s robust infrastructure, which is known for higher throughput and reduced transaction costs compared to many other blockchain networks. While Time.fun still acknowledges the value of Base as a Layer 2 solution, the platform sees Solana’s ecosystem as a better fit to achieve product-market alignment and the user experience needed for success in Web3.

What the Move Means for Users and Creators

During the transition, users can continue to use Time.fun on Base, purchasing and redeeming minutes without disruption. However, once the migration is complete, all users and creators will need to re-register on the Solana-based platform. This reset involves new tokenizations, minutes, and smart contracts tailored to Solana’s capabilities.

Financial Protections for the Community

To ensure a smooth transition for its community, Time.fun has implemented several measures:
  • Snapshot of Balances: A record of all current balances and trades ensures users' holdings are protected.
  • Refunds for Negative P/L: Users holding minutes as of the snapshot date will be refunded for negative profit/loss if they choose to sell, mitigating migration-related losses.
  • Exclusions for New Purchases: Minutes purchased after the announcement won’t qualify for refunds, though they remain redeemable.
  • No Refunds on Prior Closed Trades: Completed trades before the announcement are not eligible for refunds.
Time.fun’s refund policy underscores its commitment to integrity during this transition—a rare move in the Web3 space.

Temporary Suspension of Points Program

In preparation for the Solana launch, Time.fun will pause its points and leaderboard program. The final points distribution on Base will occur based on activity from October 25–31. After the migration, the program will resume with new features adapted for the Solana platform.

Significance for Solana and the Broader Web3 Landscape

Time.fun’s decision to migrate to Solana signals a major endorsement of Solana’s potential as a key player in the blockchain space—especially for the creator economy sector. This move showcases how Solana's high throughput, low fees, and strong developer community can cater to projects requiring scalability and performance at scale.

As Web3 matures, migrations like this highlight a shift towards networks that prioritize usability and speed. By attracting projects like Time.fun, Solana further cements its reputation as a blockchain for real-world applications beyond traditional DeFi, encompassing social engagement and creator monetization.

For Time.fun, joining Solana means aligning with a blockchain network that can fully support its vision of enabling creators and fans to connect in new, personalized ways. This transition sets a precedent for other Web3 platforms seeking to scale without compromising on user experience.
